Blond, auburn or purple, whatever colour you choose, you’d like to enjoy it as long as possible. The correct care products are indispensable in your bathroom cabinet, but the optimal colour-experience starts before you start dyeing your hair. It’s never clever to apply hair dye to uncombed hair, but what about freshly washed hair? We answer the question you ask yourself with every dye-job: Do I have to wash my hair before dying?
Washing hair before dying; smart or not?
Those who just rinse their hair with water don’t have to worry. Since most ladies like a good dose of shampoo, you probably too ask yourself if it’s clever to wash your hair before dyeing. The answer is quite simple: it’s better to skip a wash before you turn to colouring. After washing your hair, the scalp opens up and chances are the hydrogen from the hair dye will sting. That can cause itching. To prevent itching and other allergic reactions, we advise you not to wash your hair at least 24 hours before you do your colouring. That creates more sebum on the scalp. Sebum keeps your scalp better protected during the colouring-process.
Use hairstyling before colouring
Applying dye on a thick layer of gel, wax or other styling products is not a good idea either. Most hair dyes don’t attach well to hair that’s ‘dirty’ from styling products and the colour may not spread evenly. It is essential that you do not wash your hair 24 hours before you start your dye-job. And please avoid styling products like gel, wax and dry shampoo after your last wash. These make your hair oily and it is likely that you will not achieve the wished-for colour.
