Last year your ski-trip was tons of fun and your skiwear vividly remembers. During the apres-ski not only your mouth enjoyed the shots. It could happen to anyone, but we bet you put all your skiwear, including the stains, in a box when you got home thinking ‘I’ll wash them next year.’. Well, that moment has come. Your skiwear needs a good wash if you want to hit slopes clean and stylish. How to wash your skiwear? It’s easy if you use these tips and tricks!

#1 Read the washing instructions

That makes sense, but you’ll be surprised when you find out that you often forget this. Before you throw your skiwear into your washing machine, it’s clever to first read the care label. What temperature should you use? Is it safe to put it in the dryer? Do the garments need to be ironed after washing? It’s better to check this beforehand since torn skiwear is worse than dirty clothes.

#2 Check your pockets

During skiing, you put things in your pockets. A ski pass, the wrap of your favourite chocolate bar, you just put it in the pockets of your ski coat and forget about it. Before you wash your skiwear, it’s smart to check your pockets first. Who knows, you may discover a nice souvenir!

#3 Clean washing machine

Before you wash your skiwear, check if your washing machine is clean and empty. You don’t want soap residue to stain and ruin your stylish skiwear. It’s also clever to check the drum and remove old dost residue.

#4 Wash separately

Washing all your laundry in just one wash saves time. Unfortunately, this is not the best thing to do. Of course you wash all your skiwear at once, as long as it fits into your washing machine. Tossing in other garments is not clever. Skiwear needs to be treated differently from other clothes.

#5 Detergent

Without using the right detergent, not much will remain from your skiwear. There is a special detergent for ski clothes on the market. This will keep your clothes water-resistant. These special detergents aren’t a bargain though and regular detergent will clean your clothes as well. Please keep in mind that you should use a liquid detergent and stay away from fabric softener.

#6 Drip dry

After you’re done washing your skiwear, it’s best to let it drip dry. You can use a washing line or put it on a hanger, but don’t let it dry on your stove. It’s better not to put your skiwear in your dryer unless it says so on the care label. (that you just checked!) Do you think that any soap residue is left on your garments? Just rinse your clothes using cold water and let them dry.

#7 Reactivate water-resistant function

Your skiwear has a water-resistant coating, like Gore-tex. After washing you have to reactivate this function. You do this by throwing your clothes in the dryer for 20 minutes. Just make sure your skiwear is fully dry before you throw it in your dryer.

For those who don’t own a dryer, don’t worry! You can still reactivate the water-resistant layer. All you need is a towel and an iron. Lay your towel on your clothes and iron at a warm temperature, but please don’t use the steam-function.

#8 Impregnate ski clothing

Sometimes the water-resistant layer on your skiwear doesn’t work anymore. Did you try the previous tip, but it didn’t work? There is a last resort. There are special sprays and detergents that waterproof your clothes available. Only use these if our other tips don’t work! Before you go on your ski trip, always check first if your clothes are still water-resistant. You really don’t want to get into annoying situations when you’re finally on the slopes.
