White trainers are a wardrobe staple and look amazing on everyone. They are timeless, go with everything and you can wear them with a dress, casual jeans or a business suit. There is one downside though. No matter how careful you treat your shoes, keeping your trainers white and bright seems almost an impossible thing to do. Use these 5 common household items to make your white shoes look as good as new.

#1 Vinegar

A dash of vinegar makes your white trainers shine like they used to. Dip a soft cloth or a kitchen wipe in white vinegar and gently rub your trainers. What if this does not do the trick? Then put a few drops of vinegar directly on your trainers and smear. The advantage of cleaning with vinegar is that you can also use it on canvas white shoes.

#2 Toothpaste

Toothpaste whitens our pearly whites, but does it work on white shoes as well? Use an old toothbrush and some toothpaste to make your trainers look white and bright. Put a small amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush and gently brush making circular motions. Let it soak for 10 minutes. Take a damp cloth and wipe your trainers. This technique prevents your trainers from scratching to make them look as good as new.

#3 Shampoo

Shampoo is known for its cleaning properties, and that is exactly what it does to your white trainers. The foam of shampoo loosens the dirt off your shoes and makes them shine like never before. Use lukewarm water to clean your trainers. It is essential to thoroughly rinse your shoes, because you do not want to walk around with soap residue on your footgear.

#4 Baking soda

Baking soda works magic on your dirty trainers. Put some baking soda in a bowl and mix it with water to create a smooth paste. Gently brush the mixture into the shoe’s surface to work out loose dirt. Now you brush on the second coat of paste. Set your trainers in the sun and wait until the paste is dry. Use a damp cloth to gently wipe the dried paste off your shoes. To get maximum results, we advise you to repeat the baking soda-trick multiple times.

#5 Bleach

If your shoes are all-over white, you can use bleach to restore your white trainers. Bleach is a chemical process for making your shoes white again. Bleach is your last resort, and therefore we advise you to try our other tips first. Did our other tips not work? Mix bleach with water, put on your old clothes and rubber gloves. Dip a toothbrush (please use an old one) in the solution and scrub the dirty parts of your trainers. Rinse the toothbrush with water and keep it wet. Continue scrubbing until the stains are gone. You can enhance the whitening power of bleach by letting your shoes sit out in the sun after bleaching.
