It’s one of the oldest and most popular brands on the planet: Adidas. The world-famous shoe brand with the three stripes has many influential singers and rappers as fans, like Snoop Dogg and the Beastie Boys. And you, not to forget! :) Adidas shoes rock the minimal design trend, plus they are very comfy. Once you put them on, you probably never want to take them off. Eventually, you’ll have to, because having dirty Adidas trainers will ruin their appearance and even make them smell, ehm, funky. No Adidas enthusiast would want to mess up their favourite shoes, but we’ve got it covered. In this blog you read if you can put Adidas shoes in the washer and how to follow the easy step-by-step cleaning tips.

How to clean Adidas shoes in the washer

Tossing your Adidas trainers in the washer is a quick and easy way to get them nice and clean. There are a few things to be aware of before you throw your Adidas shoes in the washer. Please keep in mind that washing your shoes in the washing machine affects the lifespan of your trainers. Washing your Adidas trainers in the washing machine puts a strain on the adhesive layer of the shoe. In the worst case, the sole may even come off! To enjoy your Adidas shoes as long as possible, it’s best not to toss them in the washer too often. Here’s a guideline that’ll help you with cleaning Adidas shoes in the washer.

#1 Remove laces

To keep your laces from getting all tangled up, remove them and put them in a separate bag or pillowcase to go in the washer.

#2 Remove insoles

Whatever you do, please do not put the insoles in the washer! They should be washed by hand with a solution of warm water and detergent to remove stains and funky smells. Allow them to air dry until the insoles are completely dry.

#3 Add towels

Adding 4-6 towels -depending on the size- keeps the load balanced and helps prevent your Adidas shoes from banging around. For extra protection, you can put the Adidas trainers in a laundry bag or pillowcase.

#4 Use the delicate cycle

Use liquid detergent and the cold water cycle to wash your trainers. Does your washer have a cycle with a low spin speed? Perfect! The low spin speed will help ensure your washer stays balanced.

#5 Dry

Never use the dryer to dry your shoes! The adhesive layer of your Adidas trainers will melt and your shoes will be totally deformed. Put the wet Adidas shoes somewhere in your room, but avoid direct sunlight. The sun may cause your Adidas to fade or shrink. Loosely put a small white towel or white paper in the shoes the speed up the drying process. This collects excess water and ensures that the shape of your trainers is kept intact. It may take a couple of days before your Adidas shoes are fully dry.

How to wash Adidas shoes by hand: easy step-by-step cleaning tips

Tossing your Adidas shoes in the washer is the easy solution, but washing them manually is better for the lifespan of your trainers. Follow the 6 easy steps to wash your Adidas shoes by hand.

Before you start cleaning your Adidas trainers, keep the following at hand:

  • Bowl
  • An old toothbrush or cloth
  • A clean toothbrush or cloth
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Clean towel or cloth

#1 Wash laces in soapy water

An old mug will help you out! Get a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent and mix it with two quarts of warm water. Remove the laces and let them soak in the soapy water for at least 15 minutes. Now wrap the laces around your hand and brush them clean with a clean toothbrush. Flip the laces and brush the other side. Rinse the laces under running water and let them air dry.

#2 Brush off loose dirt and muck

Grab your old toothbrush or cloth and brush off any loose and excess dirt.

#3 Soapy water

Fill up a bowl with lukewarm water and pour two drops of your liquid laundry detergent in it. Stir et voila, you just made soapy water!

#4 Scrub

Dip a clean toothbrush or cloth into the soapy water and clean all the sides of your trainers.

#5 Wipe off excess soap

Throw away the soapy water and refill your bowl with water. Dip a clean cloth or towel into the water and use it to wipe off the excess soap.

#6 Dry

Put your Adidas trainers in a dry, room-temperature spot and avoid direct sunlight. Let your shoes sit here until they are completely dry. It may take a couple of days, but your Adidas shoes will be as good as new.
