Concealer is a true makeup staple and the most versatile product you can own. It has so many awesome benefits, from concealing spots and dark circles to brightening up and contouring your face: your trusted concealer does it all. But your concealer can do so much more than correct imperfections. There are additional unique ways to get the most out of concealer. We tell you everything about the multipurpose magic wand and where to apply concealer.

Where to apply concealer

A concealer can do so much more than simply camouflage imperfections. How you use and apply concealer depends on what you want to cover and what kind of concealer you use. But one thing applies to all concealers: just use your ring finger, a special brush, or a damp beauty sponge when you apply concealer. Most people already use the indispensable to cover dark under-eye circles and spontaneous spots or to get rid of under-eye bags. If you want to enhance your complexion, we give you 11 tips on where to apply concealer.

Keep this in mind before you apply concealer

Before you enthusiastically start applying foundation to your visage, please keep these two things in mind.

  • Concealer comes after foundation! First you smooth on foundation and then apply concealer. Blending your foundation over concealer only results in moving the concealer of the area you want to cover or highlight.
  • Find the concealer shade that matches your skin tone. Always keep your undertones in skin undertones in mind when you choose your perfect shade. Use one or two shades darker or lighter than your usual concealer for contouring and highlighting.
  • How to apply concealer depends on the kind of concealer that you’re using. Colour correcting concealers are not used and applied in the same way as regular concealers.

#1 Apply concealer on acne scars

Acne scars can be tricky to completely conceal, but a green colour correcting concealer will work like a charm. Green cancels redness, so apply the green corrector on the acne scars. Follow with your usual concealer to hide the green colour.

#2 Apply concealer on acne and blemishes

Concealer is perfect for covering acne and other blemishes! All you need to is apply a bit of concealer on the blemish or spot you want to cover. Dab (don’t rub!) it in using your ring finger or a damp makeup sponge. Follow with foundation for even, flawless skin.

#3 Apply concealer under the eyes

Use a concealer that’s one shade lighter than your actual skin tone to draw an upside-down triangle under your eyes, reaching down to the top of your cheekbone. Use your fingers or a damp makeup sponge to blend the concealer.

#4 Apply concealer above and below the brow to clean up eyebrows

Eyebrows make or break your facial expression. If you define your brows with a pomade or pencil, it’s super easy to accidentally draw outside the lines and end up with messy-looking eyebrows. Use a concealer that is the same shade as your foundation or skin tone and grab a small brush. A little goes a long way, so you only have to use a tiny bit of concealer. Dip your brush into the concealer and clean up the edges of your eyebrow. Your brows will really pop!

#5 Apply concealer as a base for eyeshadow

Are you out of eyeshadow primer, or do you want your eyeshadow to be more pigmentated? Concealer is your best friend! Concealer can act as a base for eyeshadow, helping it last longer and appear bolder. All you have to do is dab a bit of concealer on your eyelid and blend out using your fingers or a brush.

#6 Apply concealer in the inner corners of your eyes

Tap a little concealer in the inner corners of your eyes to really brighten up the eyes. Use a concealer that is two shades lighter than your skin tone and your eyes will look brighter and more alert.

#7 Apply concealer across the bridge and down the centre of the nose

To really bring the high points of your face forward and make your nose look more slender, choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your usual one. Remember: a little goes a long way! You only need a little bit of concealer to help your face catch more light.

#8 Apply concealer around the nostrils

Most people suffer from broken capillaries around the nostrils. A little bit of concealer in one shade lighter than your usual will brighten the nasal area to make your skin tone appear even.

#9 Apply concealer to the corners of your mouth

For a fresh-looking, happy and cheerful face, apply a bit of concealer to the corners of your mouth to lift your lips. Show off that beautiful smile!

#10 Apply concealer around the natural line of your lips

Whether you want to create the illusion of fuller lips or clean up lipstick bleeding, concealer can do it. Grab a fine-tipped brush, dip it into your concealer and go around the natural line of your lips. That’s all you have to do to get stunning-looking lips!

#11 Use concealer for contouring and shaping

Contour like a Kardashian! Apply a shade that is one or two shades darker than your skin tone around the hairline, under the cheekbones and down the sides of your nose. Apply a concealer in one or two shades lighter than your skin tone in the centre of your forehead, on the high points of the cheekbones and on the chin. Blend everything well and there you go! You contoured like a pro!
