Using a spray to make your coat waterproof is very easy and requires the least number of actions. It’s a precise job, because your coat won’t be fully waterproof if you don’t do it properly. With these steps, you’ll make your coat waterproof using an impregnating spray.
#1 Clean your coat
Before you can actually start making your coat waterproof, the garment has to be thoroughly clean. You can assume your coat is clean when you just bought it at a shop and haven’t worn it yet. Do you want to make your coat waterproof and have you already worn it? Then put your coat in your laundry machine. #1 Clean your coat
Just like the spray, it’s essential to have your coat thoroughly cleaned and dried before you start sealing. Only wash your coat when you’ve worn it (even once)! You don’t have to wash a new coat. Only a tiny layer of dirt will keep your impregnates from penetrating the fibres!
#2 Impregnating your coat
Step 1 using the bottle is similar to using a spray, right? Well, things are about to change from here. Before you start impregnating with liquids from a bottle you have to make soapy water! Fill a bucket with water and add the impregnating agent from the bottle. Put your coat in the water and let it soak for about 15 minutes. In the meantime, just regularly move your coat back and forward to let the agent penetrate.
After 15 minutes you can rinse your coat under cold water.
#3 Drying and ironing our coat
After impregnating, let your coat dry. Just make sure your coat is a little bit moist before your start ironing it since heat reinforces the impregnating agent.
