Your best bet is to start by wearing your new Birkenstock in at home. Start with 1 or 2 hours and slowly increase the time until you reach a point where you can wear them comfortably all day.

Mix enough baking soda with water until you get a thick paste and spread this over the entire footbed of your Birkenstock. Wipe away the excess paste with a wet cloth and then dry the shoes as much as possible with a dry cloth.
