If there is one garment that has a special place in the hearts and wardrobes of people around the globe, it’s definitely denim jeans. One may prefer a skinny fit, while others favour mom jeans. But no matter which jeans suit your body type, you just get annoyed when you’re newly bought denim wears and tears quickly. Yet it’s not difficult to keep your favourite jeans in great shape and enjoy them for years. How do you do that? With these tips keeping your jeans looking brand new is as easy as one, two, three!

#1 Avoid the washing machine

The first tip to keep your jeans looking brand new is: limit washing! You probably already knew this, but washing your jeans doesn’t do the fabric any good. The washing machine damages the fibres and the colour will fade a lot quicker. The bottom line is that you should cut back on washing your jeans, but what if you love fresh-smelling denim? Without using your washing machine, you can still avoid nasty-smelling jeans.

#2 Don’t bulge your pockets

Your phone, wallet and keys, you can put all of these in your 5-pocket jeans. You may have to stuff your pockets a bit. Even though we think that pockets are one of the best inventions, your jeans will last longer if you don’t bulge your pockets. If you bulge your pockets, your pockets will wear and you’ll need to replace your jeans.

#3 Prevent the colour from fading

Limit washing is one of the golden rules. Do you have a pair of Raw Denim jeans? Then we advise you to not wash them at all for 6 months. During the production process, Raw Denim is unwashed to maintain the raw effect of the indigo colouring. If you do decide on putting your Raw Denim jeans in your washing machine, the jeans will stain your other laundry and, this may be even worse, the intense colour will fade.

To prevent the colour from fading, just put your jeans in a bucket filled with water and vinegar before you wash them. Fill the bucket using half water and half vinegar and let your jeans soak for at least thirty minutes. You can now wash your jeans (preferably by hand) without your jeans staining and fading.

#4 Wash your jeans inside out

Even though not washing your jeans is quite a challenge, we totally understand that you need to wash your new pair of Gap jeans at some point in time. If you do decide on throwing your jeans into your washing machine, then do it wisely. Always wash your jeans inside out. This affects the fibres and colour the least.

#5 Close zips and empty pockets

Zips, small hooks or stuff in your pockets ruin your jeans. If you want to keep your jeans looking stunning, it’s essential that you empty all the pockets and fasten the zips. By the way, this applies to all the garments that you toss in your washing machine.

#6 Use a mild detergent

Please keep in mind that there are so many kinds of detergents on the market! Every colour and every material has its own specific needs. When you want to wash your jeans, it’s best to use a mild detergent of a special colour detergent. Most of these detergents don’t contain bleach and keep your jeans looking amazing. Especially when you wash your new pair of Levi’s that contain elastane, these detergents will make your newly bought denim last longer.

#7 Never use fabric softener on jeans

Fabric softener and your new jeans are not a match made in heaven. On the contrary, fabric softener damages your jeans’ elasticity! No matter how lovely it smells, it’s best to stay away from fabric softener when you want to wash your jeans. Just add a cup of vinegar to your detergent and your jeans will be nice and soft.

#8 Use a gentle setting

Perhaps you’re already into an eco-friendly way of life by buying DL1961 jeans and washing them in cold temperatures only, but you still don’t want to miss out on this tip. To make your jeans last longer, use the machine’s least aggressive setting and stick to cold water. A delicate setting and a lower temperature do a better job protecting the fibres and fit of your jeans.

#9 Don't put your jeans in the dryer

Last, but not least, never toss your jeans into the dryer. The heat of the dryer damages the fibres and will make your jeans wear quicker. Hanging your jeans to drip-dry is the easiest on the fabric. Also, drip-drying reduces wrinkles and helps your jeans maintain their proper fit and colour.
