It’s time to put the spotlight on the happy pop of colour that brings life to every face: yes sir! We’re talking about cream blush! We’ve all heard of cream blushes, but many avoid this lit-from-within-flush due to fear of looking like they’ve played with their mum’s makeup. No need to fear, though! If you apply cream blush correctly, you get that beautiful glowy, dewy flush that no powder blush will ever give you. Another benefit: no more cakey finishes! Ever! But how do you apply cream blush and look like the best version of you? We’ve got you covered and give you an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide on how to apply cream blush.

Is cream blush better than powder blush?

You can be as creative with your eyes and lips as you want. Bold eyeshadow is great for a night out on the town if you want your eyes to pop, and wearing super bright lipstick draws attention to your beautiful lips. But unlike your eyes and lips, you always want your cheeks to look as natural as possible if you wish to avoid looking like a clown. -and we bet all women want to avoid that!- Your cheeks look best if they look like you’re not wearing any blush at all. Powder blushes are great but much easier to overdo than their creamy siblings. Why? Well, cream formulas are sheer and lightweight by nature, making them perfect for creating natural-looking, dewy cheeks. There’s nothing wrong with powder blushes, but you can’t use them on every skin type. Cream blushes can be used on all types of skin, whether you’re aging or teenaging, and from dry to oily skin. But some skin types that benefit from cream blushes more than others.

Cream blush is best for:

  • Dry skin. Using a powder blush on top of your dry skin usually enhances the dryness of the skin and gives you an overall dull look. A cream blush is going to work amazingly because it adds extra moisture to the skin, plus it gives you a gorgeous and youthful glow.
  • Mature skin. We all age, that’s a fact we can’t deny. Aging skin tends to get drier and looks duller. A cream blush will give you dewiness and a youthful glow.
  • Cold climates. A cream blush is perfect for people who live in colder climates, like the UK. Especially in the colder months, the cold air takes away moisture. A cream blush adds the lost moisture and gives you the longed-for dewy glow.

How to apply cream blush

Cream blush is the perfect alternative to powder ones if you love the lit-from-within flush. Even if you naturally shy away from cream products, a cream blush will work magic on your cheeks. Correct application is the key, so we’ve put together this easy-to-follow step-by-step guide for how to apply cream blush.

# Step 1 Prep your skin

A moisturised skin is the perfect canvas for any makeup look. To ensure your skin is hydrated, go through your usual skincare routine and use a moisturising day cream. Let your skincare products sink in before you apply any other makeup product.

# Step 2 Apply foundation

Once your skin is prepped and hydrated, you can apply your favourite foundation, BB or CC cream, or tinted moisturiser. It’s best to use liquid formulas if you want to use a cream blush because they work really well together as far as texture is concerned. Just remember that powder and cream don’t match because they tend to get splotchy. Use concealer on the spots that need extra coverage, et voila, you’re ready for step 3!

# Step 3 Apply cream blush

Start lightly! You can always apply more as you go. Apply cream blush to the apples of your cheeks in a sweeping, upward motion. You can use or fingers or a blush brush, whatever is the most convenient for you. The warmth of your fingers will make it easier to spread the cream blush out, but a blush brush will be good enough too. Smile big and apply the cream blush right where your cheek looks the most round in the centre. Place a dot of blush on your cheek and blend upward along the cheekbone.

# Step 4 Make sure the colour is even

Step back from the mirror and take a look at your cheeks. Is the colour even on both sides? Perfect! In case you’ve over-applied, correct by blending the colour down.

# Step 5 Finish with translucent powder

To set your makeup in place, dust loose powder over your face. For a natural-looking result, it’s best to use a fluffy brush to apply the powder. You end up with the dewy glow of cream and the longevity of the powder. Talking about a win-win situation!
